Knights Defeat Spitfires Force Game Seven

Robert Thomas scored two goals and added an assist as the London Knights defeated the Windsor Spitfires 5-3 Sunday afternoon to force a game seven in their Ontario Hockey League Western Conference quarter-final play-off series.

Mitchell Stephens, Janne Kuokkanen and JJ Piccinich had the other goals for the Knights (3-3) who won for the first time in six games in Windsor this season.

Leading 2-1 after 40 minutes of play, the Knights upped their lead to 4-1 in the third period on markers by Piccinich and Thomas before the Spitfires struck twice to get within a goal at 4-3 with five minutes remaining in the final frame. Thomas’ second goal of the game and of the series into an empty net rounded out the scoring in the contest.

Jeremiah Addison scored all three goals for the Spitfires (3-3) who have seen their 3-1 lead in games erased by the defending Memorial cup champion Knights in the last two games.

Tyler Parsons made 25 saves to pick up the win in goal for the Knights while Michael DiPietro made 39 stops at the other end.

Game seven goes Tuesday night at the Budweiser Gardens in London.
