Lions Head Coach Caldwell on Contract Extension

On if he was aware of how much the Monday Night Football crew was saying he needed to get a contract extension: “No.”

On if anyone brought up the contract extension talk raised by the Monday Night Football crew: “No.”

On if he has signed a contract extension in the last couple of days: “Just like I’ve said before, I’ll say it a thousand times, I’ve told you guys I’ll answer it the same way now and you ask me eight weeks down the road, I’m only concerned about a couple things. It’s my men and my mission. And our mission is to win. Everything else will take care of itself. And they aren’t worried about anything else other than that. So, that’s our focus.”

On if he would tell the media if he signed a contract extension: “No, that’s the honest truth. And I did hear a little buzz about it and I said to you. I mean, I heard a little buzz about it’s not important.”

On if people not in Detroit have the same questions regarding his contract extension situation: “I think what they’re most concerned about and most interested in is how we play and if we win or not. I think that’s the most important thing. That’s the most important thing to me, and I think they view it the same way I believe.”

On if people think his mission is “men, mission, and money”: “No, I think I stated it pretty clearly. Did you misunderstand?”

Detroit (2-0) returns to Ford Field in Week 3 for a home contest against the Atlanta Falcons (2-0). The Lions knocked off the Giants 24-10 on Monday Night Football in Week 2, while Atlanta is coming off a 34-23 win against Green Bay. The Lions and Falcons have met 36 times in the regular season, with Detroit holding a 24-12 edge in the all-time series. The two teams last met in the NFL International Series game at London’s Wembley Stadium in 2014, where Detroit claimed victory, 22-21.
