Muskegon Clippers vs St. Clair Green Giants June 19 Recap
Green Giants Downed by Clippers
The St. Clair Green Giants lost their second consecutive game to the Muskegon Clippers, 8-7 at Marsh Field Monday evening. The loss drops the Green Giants to 8-4, with three of those losses coming against the Clippers.
With the game tied at seven heading into the final inning, St. Clair threatened to take the lead with runners on first and second and one out. After a fielder’s choice ground out put runners on the corners with two out, Jalen Thomas struck out stranding the runners and giving Muskegon a chance to take the game in the bottom half of the inning. With runners on second and first and two out for the Clippers, Wyatt Featherston singled in the game winning run, giving Muskegon the victory.
Starter Brad Verel, who had been one of the Green Giants best arms to begin the season had a rough outing as he surrendered 5 runs in 4.2 innings of work. Walks were a problem for St. Clair pitchers as they combined to walk eight batters. Although the offense managed 13 hits, they stranded 13 runners and were unable to find a timely hit down the stretch . Matt Deneau hit his first home run of the year, while Jalen Thomas and Jesse Gonzales each chipped in with 3 hits.
The Green Giants will be back at home Tuesday evening when they welcome the second place Grand River Loggers to Lacasse Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
As a reminder, the first 300 fans at tomorrow night’s game will receive a free hotdog courtesy of M.R. Meat Market.
