NBLC Announces Cancellation of the 2019-20 Season

On Tuesday March 31, 2020, the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada) board of governors unanimously voted to cancel the remainder of the 2019/20 regular season and playoffs as a result of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.

“NBL Canada’s decision to cancel the remainder of the 2019-20 season as well as the playoffs was truly a difficult one to make,” said deputy commissioner, Audley Stephenson.

“Our owners, management, support staff, players and coaching staff invested countless hours in preparation for the season and its incredibly sad that we were unable to complete the year the way we would have liked to.”

NBL Canada announced on March 12th, 2020 that it would suspend all basketball operations due to the Coronavirus outbreak and committed to monitor and assess the situation accordingly.

“Our league remains dedicated to the health and safety of our players, officials, fans, staff and general public and we feel that our decision to cancel the season is a prudent one in order to help prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.”

Fans are urged to continue to follow the safety measures put in place by their local authorities as NBL Canada begins preparations for its tenth season in 2020-21.
