NHL NEWS DEC 13 – PENGUINS ERUPT FOR SEVEN-GOAL VICTORY

Seven different skaters found the back of the net as the Penguins extended their winning streak to a season-long six games. Pittsburgh has outscored their opponents 35-14 over the streak, tallying five or more goals in five of six contests.

Sidney Crosby (1-0—1) batted a puck out of mid-air to pick up his League-leading 21st goal of the season and extend his point streak to seven games (7-6—13). Crosby, who has scored in each of his last four outings, has registered his 21 goals in only 23 games.

Matt Murray made 32 saves to earn his second shutout of the season and improve to 11-2-0 (1.84 GAA, .936 SV%). Per Elias, Murray improved to 19-4-1 in his NHL career to become just the fifth goaltender in NHL history to begin his career with 19 or more wins in his first 25 career starts. The others: Bill Durnan (20-2-3) in 1943-44, Ross Brooks(21-1-3) in 1972-74, Frederik Andersen (20-5-0) in 2013-14 and Andrew Hammond(21-1-3) in 2015.

The victory came on the one year anniversary of the hiring of head coach Mike Sullivan. Under Sullivan, the Penguins have gone 52-23-8 in the regular-season and captured the 2016 Stanley Cup championship.
