NHL NEWS DEC 20 – ROAD TEAMS SWEEP MONDAY SCHEDULE
All four games contested on Monday were won by the visitors.
The Flames scored three times on the power-play to improve to 5-1-1 in their last seven road games, including three consecutive wins. Sean Monahan (0-1—1) extended his career-high point streak to 10 games (5-7—12).
Cam Fowler scored his third game-winning goal of the season to move into a tie for the League lead among defensemen and lift the Ducks to their fifth win in their last seven outings. Anaheim earned their first road win vs. TOR since Oct. 21, 2008 (3-2 SO W), snapping a four-game slide (0-3-1) in head coach Randy Carlyle’s first meeting with his former club.
Pekka Rinne (31 saves) denied all three shootout attempts as Nashville snapped Philadelphia’s home win streak at six games. The Predators earned their first victory in extra time this season, ending a five-game slide (2 OT L, 3 SO L).
Patrick Maroon tied the game in the third period and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored at 2:55 of overtime to lead the Oilers to their third win in their last four outings.
- Oilers captain Connor McDavid collected an assist on the overtime winner and leads the NHL with 12-28—40 this season (34 GP). Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko (1-0—1) ranks second with 16-22—38 (33 GP)
- Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews (1-0—1) ranks second among rookies with 15-9—24 this season (31 GP)
- Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau (0-1—1) has earned at least one point in all seven games since making his return to the Calgary lineup on Dec. 4 (2-9—11)
- Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf (1-0—1) extended his point streak to five games (2-4—6)
- Ducks forward Andrew Cogliano skated in his 737th consecutive game dating to Oct. 4, 2007, tying Jay Bouwmeester (March 6, 2004 – Nov. 22, 2014) for the fifth-longest such streak in NHL history
- Monday’s game between the Detroit Red Wings and Hurricanes at PNC Arena was postponed due to a technical problem with the ice equipment that made the ice surface unplayable. The date and time of the rescheduled game will be announced at a later date
- Blackhawks left wing Artemi Panarin, Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist and Wild center Eric Staal were named the NHL’s “Three Stars” for the week.
