NHL NEWS DEC 6 – RUST (HAT TRICK), PENGUINS POST ANOTHER COMEBACK WIN
Trailing 4-2 in the second period, the Penguins rallied for an eventual 8-5 victory over the Senators powered by Bryan Rust’s first career hat trick (3-1—4). The Penguins overcame a two-goal deficit to win for the second consecutive game and sixth time in their 16 wins this season after accomplishing the feat seven times all of last season (48 wins). Rust’s first career hat trick included a highlight reel penalty shot goal, an even-strength marker and an empty net goal.
Evgeni Malkin (1-2—3) extended his point streak to six games (2-9—11), while Sidney Crosby scored to extend his point streak to five games (3-5—8) and regain the NHL lead with 17 goals this season.
- Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask (27 saves) and Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky (17 saves) both recorded their 14th win of the season, matching Canadiens goaltender Carey Price for the League lead
- Senators forward Mike Hoffman (1-0—1) extended his point streak to five games (5-3—8)
- Blue Jackets forward Brandon Saad (0-1—1) recorded his 200th career NHL point (90-110—200 in 310 GP)
- Sabres defenseman Erik Burgdoerfer and Coyotes forward Brendan Perlini made their NHL debut
- Flyers goaltender Steve Mason, Blues right wing Vladimir Tarasenko and Sharks goaltender Martin Jones have been named the NHL’s “Three Stars” for the week ending Dec. 4
