NHL NEWS DEC 7 – SIMMONDS, FLYERS WIN SIXTH STRAIGHT
Wayne Simmonds (2-0—2) scored both Flyers goals in regulation and Jakub Voracekpotted the game-winner with just nine seconds remaining in overtime to propel Philadelphia to their sixth consecutive victory.
The Flyers have won six straight games for the first time since a seven-game streak from Dec. 2-15, 2011.
Simmonds, who leads the Flyers in goals and points with 15-11—26 in 28 games this season, ranks tied for third in the NHL in goals and holds sole possession of first in power-play goals (8).
Steve Mason made 42 saves to extend his personal winning streak to five games (5-0-0, 1.74 GAA, .947 SV %), allowing no more than two goals in each of those contests.
- The Islanders extended their point streak to five games (4-0-1) with a win over the Rangers
- The Red Wings overcame a 3-1 deficit in regulation to pick up their fourth win in their last five road games. Henrik Zetterberg (0-1—1), who scored the decisive goal in the shootout, extended his point streak to five games (3-3—6)
- Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau (1-1—2) has recorded multi-point games in back-to-back contests (also 1-1—2 on Dec. 4 vs. ANA)
- Jets forward Patrik Laine (1-1—2) scored his 17th goal of the season, tying Sidney Crosby for the NHL lead
- Islanders forward Josh Bailey (1-5—6) and Jets forward Blake Wheeler (1-6—7) extended their point streaks to six games while Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien (1-5—6) and Flames forwards Sean Monahan (3-4—7) and Kris Versteeg (2-4—6) pushed their point streaks to five games.
