NHL NEWS MARCH 14 – FLAMES MATCH FRANCHISE RECORD WITH 10TH STRAIGHT VICTORY
NHL NEWS MARCH 14 – Kris Versteeg (0-2—2) scored the decisive shootout marker to help the Flames edge the Penguins and extend their win and point streaks to 10 and 12 games (11-0-1), respectively. Calgary equaled the longest single-season win streak in franchise history – a mark set as the Atlanta Flames from Oct. 14 – Nov. 3, 1978 – and moved within one game of equaling the longest point streak in club history, trailing only a 13-game run from Nov. 10 – Dec. 8, 1988.
At 39-26-4 (82 points), Calgary moved into a tie – in terms of points – with Anaheim (36-23-10, 82 points) for second place in the Pacific Division.
Calgary became the fourth team to earn a win streak of 10+ games this season, joining Columbus (16-0-0), Minnesota (12-0-0) and Philadelphia (10-0-0).
Brian Elliott (32 saves) earned his ninth consecutive win and improved to 13-1-1 in his last 15 decisions dating to Jan. 26 (1.93 GAA, .934 SV%, 2 SO).
