Alexander Steen tied the game with 57 seconds remaining in regulation and Vince Dunn scored the overtime winner to power the Blues (27-17-3, 57 points) past the Maple Leafs.
There have been 66 game-tying goals scored in the final five minutes of regulation this season, with teams who score these goals improving to 36-1-29 in those contests.
KLINGBERG EXTENDS POINT STREAK IN MILESTONE GAME FOR HITCHCOCK
John Klingberg collected two assists to extend his point streak to a career-high eight games (2-10—12) and help the Stars (26-17-3, 55 points) improve to 4-1-0 in their last five contests.
Klingberg whose eight-game point streak is the longest active run in the NHL – leads all blueliners with 6-37—43 this season (46 GP). He became the first Stars defenseman to record at least one point in eight consecutive team games since Sergei Zubov from March 24 – April 15, 2006 (3-7—10 in 9 GP).
Ken Hitchcock coached his 1,500th career regular-season game to become the fourth head coach in NHL history (second active) to reach the milestone.
WILLIE O’REE TO BE HONORED AHEAD OF 60TH ANNIVERSARY
Hockey pioneer Willie O’Ree will be honored prior to Wednesday’s Boston-Montreal game to mark the 60th anniversary of his first NHL game – on Jan. 18, 1958, O’Ree broke the National Hockey League’s color barrier when he made his debut with the Bruins in a 3-0 win over the Canadiens. At 82 years of age, O’Ree continues to leave his mark on the game as the NHL’s Diversity Ambassador.
ANOTHER 40-SAVE SHUTOUT FOR SAROS
Juuse Saros turned aside all 43 shots he faced to backstop the Predators (26-11-6, 58 points) over the Golden Knights. Nashville moved within three points of Vegas (29-11-3, 61 points) for first place in the Western Conference standings.
Saros who established a club record for most saves in a shutout on Dec. 14 at EDM (46) – became the first goaltender in franchise history to record multiple 40-save shutouts with the Predators. He also became the first on any team to do so in a single season since Jonathan Quick in 2015-16 (w/ LAK).
KID ROCK TO HEADLINE NHL ALL STAR GAME
Multiplatinum-selling singer/songwriter Kid Rock will headline the entertainment for the 2018 Honda NHL® All-Star Game in Tampa on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018. A portion of the second intermission featuring Kid Rock will be televised as part of the 2018 Honda NHL® All-Star Game broadcast, which begins at 3:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018.
