STAMKOS, KUCHEROV CONTINUE SCORCHING STARTS
Steven Stamkos (1-3—4) and Nikita Kucherov (2-1—3) each extended their season-opening point streaks to nine games – combining for a goal just 96 seconds into the contest – to power the Lightning to a 7-1-1 record, equaling their best nine-game start to a season in franchise history (also 7-1-1 in 2003-04).

Stamkos, who also collected 18 points in Tampa Bay’s first nine games in 2010-11 (8-10—18; 2.00), became the fourth different player in the past 21 years to average at least two points per game through his team’s first nine contests in a season. The others: Jaromir Jagr in 1999-00 (8-10—18; 2.00), Mario Lemieux in 2002-03 (5-15—20; 2.22) and Thomas Vanek in 2012-13 (8-11—19; 2.11).

Stamkos scored his 113th career power-play goal to become the franchise’s all-time leader and also became the third Lightning player to record 600 career points with the club (324-276—600 in 595 GP). Stamkos ranks second in the NHL in goals and power-play goals since entering the League in 2008-09, behind only Alex Ovechkin (405 G, 156 PPG in that span).

GOLDEN KNIGHTS EMERGE WITH ANOTHER OT WIN, CONTINUE RECORD START
William Karlsson (1-1—2) scored with 23.8 seconds remaining in overtime and goaltenders Malcolm Subban (37 saves) and Oscar Dansk (10 saves) made a combined 47 stops to help the expansion Golden Knights improve to 6-1-0, a record that includes three overtime victories.

The Golden Knights became the first club in the 100-year history of the NHL to win six of its first seven games in its inaugural season. Vegas also shattered the expansion era benchmark for fewest games to reach six wins by a club in its inaugural season — the Kings set the previous mark in 1967-68 by improving to 6-4-3 in their 13th contest.

Dansk, who was selected 31st overall by the Blue Jackets in the 2012 NHL Draft, was credited for the win in his League debut. Subban (2-0-0) also registered his first career wins this week, while Marc-Andre Fleury (3-1-0) registered the club’s first three victories.

Reilly Smith (1-2—3) factored on all three Golden Knights goals to register the first three-point game in club history and fourth of his NHL career.

LUNDQVIST TIES HALL FOR NINTH ON ALL-TIME WINS LIST
Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist made 23 saves to earn his 407th career win and move into a tie with Glenn Hall for ninth place on the NHL’s all-time list.
