NHL NEWS FEBRUARY 25 – The Penguins (37-14-8, 82 points), who have earned a point in 10 of their last 11 contests (7-1-3), host the Flyers (28-25-7, 63 points) in the 2017 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh (8:00 p.m. ET,).
The meeting will mark the 279th all-time regular-season game between the Pennsylvania rivals and the second this season, with the Flyers holding an all-time edge in head-to-head contests with a 151-89-38 record (PIT: 97-144-37). The Penguins earned a 5-4 victory in their first contest of the campaign on Oct. 29, powered by two-goal efforts by Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.
The 2017 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series will be the second regular-season NHL game played outdoors at Heinz Field, following a 3-1 victory by the Capitals over the host Penguins in the 2011 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic.
The Penguins are playing in their fourth regular-season outdoor game (1-2-0), while the Flyers will be skating in their third such contest (0-1-1).
The 2017 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series will be the 22nd regular-season NHL game played outdoors, and the fourth and final such game of the 2016-17 season. Of the 21 outdoor games played, nine have been played in baseball parks, 11 at football venues, and one at a soccer stadium.
Penguins goaltender Matt Murray toured the NHL Centennial Fan Arena at The PreGame on Friday. The PreGame will be open to the public today from 3-8 p.m. at Stage AE next to Heinz Field, with the Stanley Cup on hand from 3-7 p.m.
