NIKO GOODRUM NAMED TIGERS ROOKIE OF THE YEAR BY DETROIT SPORTS MEDIA

Detroit Tigers infielder Niko Goodrum was named the Tigers Rookie of the Year by Detroit Sports Media today.

Goodrum, 26, made an Opening Day roster at the Major League level for the first time in his career in 2018, hitting .245/.315/.432 with 55 runs scored, 29 doubles, three triples, 16 home runs and 53 RBI in 131 games.

He finished the season tied for the lead among Major League rookies with three games of four-or-more hits, while he ranked second among American League rookies with 48 extra-base hits, tied for second with 42 walks, third with 29 doubles and 12 stolen bases, fourth with 109 hits, fifth with 55 runs scored and 192 total bases, tied for sixth with 16 home runs, seventh with 53 RBI and tied for seventh with 22 multi-hit games.

Drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the second round of the 2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft. Goodrum showed his versatility this past season, appearing in 64 games at second base, 37 games at first base, 12 at shortstop, 11 in left field, 10 at third base and eight in right field.

Goodrum will be presented with his award prior to a 2019 Tigers home game at Comerica Park. The Detroit Sports Media, which was formerly known as the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association, has selected a Tigers Rookie of the Year since 1969.
