Nyquist is the 142nd Kentucky Derby Winner at Churchill Downs
The three year old Nyquist, and just the eighth unbeaten horse to win the derby is owned by Windsorite Paul Reddam. He named his horse after Detroit Red Wings hockey player Gustav Nyquist.
The Red Wings are Reddam’s favorite team who is from across the border from Detroit in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
The winning ticket paid $6.60 to win on a $2 bet, $4.80 to place and $3.60 to show. Exaggerator paid $5.40 to place and $4.20 to show. Winning time was 2:01.31.
To complete the Canadian Bifecta, Nyquist is ridden by Vancouver-based jockey Mario Gutierrez.
