Erie Otters Defeat Windsor Spitfires

Troy Timpano made 16 saves as the Erie Otters doubled-up the Windsor Spitfires 4-2 at the WFCU Centre Thursday night.

Warren Foegele paced the Otters (46-14-2-1) offensively with a  goal and  an assist while Alex DeBrincat, Owen Headrick and Warren Foegele added single markers.

DeBrincat, the Ontario Hockey League leading scorer, extended his goal-scoring streak to 18 consecutive games with his league-leading 61st goal of the season.

Juluis Nattinen and Connor Corcoran replied for the Spitfires (39-16-5-3) while Michael DiPietro, who was making his return to the Windsor lineup after missing two games last weekend with the flu, made 28 saves in the contest.

DeBrincat tied the game for the Otters in the second period after Nattinen had staked the Spitfires to a 1-0 lead midway through the second period. Headrick and Cirelli then scored just over two minutes apart late in he middle frame to give Erie a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.

After Corcoran scored, Cirelli notched his 24th goal of the season to round out the scoring in the game and seal the win for the Otters, the number two-ranked team in the Canadian Hockey League.

The Windsor Spitfires schedule has them return to action Friday night on the road when they take on the Sarnia Sting at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
