Owen Sound Attack Defeat Windsor Spitfires
Michael McNiven made 25 saves as the Owen Sound Attack defeated the Windsor Spitfires 4-1 at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Arena in Owen Sound Saturday night.
Nick Suzuki paced the Attack (32-14-1-1) offensively with a pair of goals while Jonah Gadjovich and Kevin Hancock had single markers. Suzuki’s second goal of the game with one minute left in the third period was into an empty net and rounded out the scoring in the contest.
Hancock’s second period goal came on the powerplay, snapping Windsor’s streak of 45-consecutive penalty kills.
Gabe Vilardi scored the only goal of the game for the Spitfires (32-11-5-2) while Michael DiPietro made 39 saves.
The Spitfires once again iced a depleted roster, with no less than six players out of the lineup due to injuries. Despite the loss, however, the team does remain in a first place tie with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds atop the Ontario Hockey League‘s West Division standings as the Greyhounds also lost in Sudbury Saturday night.
The Windsor Spitfires schedule has them off until next Thursday when they host the Oshawa Generals at the WFCU Centre.
