Kitchener Rangers Defeat Spitfires in Shootout

Connor Bunnaman scored once and also notched the shootout winner as the Kitchener Rangers defeated the Windsor Spitfires 4-3 at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Tuesday night.

Adam Mascherin and Darby Llewellyn had the other goals for the Rangers (25-14-2-2) who trailed 2-0 after two periods and overcame a 3-2 deficit late in the third period to send the game into extra time, setting the stage for Bunnaman’s heroics.

Jalen Chatfield and Jeremiah Addison both scored a goal and added an assist to lead the Spitfires (27-8-5-2) offensively while Luke Boka had Windsor’s other goal. Aaron Luchuk chipped in with a pair of assists.

Both goaltenders were at their acrobatic best throughout the game with Kitchener’s Luke Opilka making 44 saves to pick up the win while Michael DiPietro made 39 stops at the other end.

The Spitfires schedule has them return to action Thursday night when they host the Ottawa 67s at the WFCU Centre.
