Kitchener Rangers Edge Spitfires at WFCU
Jake Henderson had a goal and an assist and Luke Opilka made 34 saves as the Kitchener Rangers edge Spitfires 2-1 at the WFCU Centre in Windsor Thursday night.
Adam Mascherin had the other goal for the Rangers (22-7-4-1) who jumped out to a 2-0 lead midway through the second period before Jeremiah Addison scored his 14th goal of the season – and third in two games – on a shorthanded effort for the Spitfires’ lone goal of the game
The loss was just the Spitfires’ second in regulation time at home this season and spoiled the team’s return to the WFCU Centre after the club had to vacate the building for their previous 13 games while the FINA World Swimming Championships were being held.
Michael DiPietro made 16 saves while taking the loss in goal.
The Spitfires (22-7-4-1) return to action for a rare Saturday afternoon game on New Year’s Eve Day when they host the Flint Firebirds.
