Detroit Red Wings fans had their heart in their mouth, as the clock ticked towards the end of a nerve-wracking match against the Colorado Avalanche on February 23, 2024. The thrilling encounter held at the Little Caesars Arena was no ordinary game. The Red Wings breathed a sigh of relief as Patrick Kane scored the game-winning goal in overtime, taking the final score to 2-1 in favor of the Red Wings.

The match was a nail-biter from the word go. Both teams showcased their prowess but no goals were scored in the first period. The Avalanche managed to break the deadlock in the second period with a goal from Nathan MacKinnon. However, the Red Wings bounced back in the final stretch of the match with a power-play goal from Dylan Larkin, taking the game into overtime.

The adrenaline-pumping overtime period was clinched by the Red Wings when Patrick Kane scored his 10th goal of the season. A quick shot from the top of the hash marks, aided by a drop pass from Larkin, left the Avalanche goalie Justus Annunen with no chance to save it.

The victory was a significant one for the Red Wings as it ended their 10-game losing streak against the Avalanche. Their last win against Colorado was a 5-3 victory on March 18, 2017, at Joe Louis Arena. This was also the first win for the Red Wings against the Avalanche at the Little Caesars Arena in six attempts.

Following the victory, the Red Wings moved past Tampa Bay into the first Eastern Conference wild-card spot. They have two games in hand on the Lightning.
