Windsor Spitfires to retire jersey of

all-time great Ryan Ellis, January 30th.

The Windsor Spitfires organization will honour one of the franchise’s all-time greats, defenceman Ryan Ellis. The Spitfires will retire his jersey in a ceremony on Saturday, January 30, 2016, prior to the Spitfires-Knights game at the WFCU Centre.

“It’s going to be an honour to have my jersey retired,” Ellis said. “I can’t wait to see all my old friends in Windsor on January 30th.”

Ellis was selected in the second round, 22nd overall, by the Windsor Spitfires in the 2007 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Draft.

In International play Ellis was named the 2011 World Junior Championships Best Defencemen.

Ellis entered the 2009 NHL Entry Draft listed as the fifth best among defencemen in North America. Ellis was picked in the first round, 11th overall, by the Nashville Predators.

On January 7, 2012, Ellis scored his first NHL goal with the Predators in a game against the Carolina Hurricanes.
