Saginaw Spirit Edge Windsor Spitfires
Filip Hronek scored twice, including the game-winner, and Evan Cormier made 20 saves as the Saginaw Spirit edged the Windsor Spitfires 3-2 at the Dow Event Center Saturday night.
Hronek’s second goal of the game came with just 11 second remaining in the third period to spoil a stellar 39-save performance by Windsor netminder Mario Culina.
Jeremy Bracco and Mikhail Sergachev scored for the Spitfires, who lost their third-straight game in regulation on the road.
The Spitfires (29-11-5-2) were without Logan Brown, Logan Stanley and Jeremy Addison, all of whom were out with injuries while Michael DiPietro and Gabe Vilardi were away in Quebec City preparing for Monday night’s CHL Top Prospects game. The depleted Windsor bench became even shorter in the second period when defenceman Daniel Robertson left the game favouring his right leg. He did not return to the game.
The victory was the first for the Spirit (19-20-6-2) in five games against the Spitfires this season.
The Spitfires schedule has them back in action tonight for a rare Sunday night game at home when they host the Hamilton Bulldogs at the WFCU Centre.
