St. Clair Women’s Soccer Fall to Top Ranked Humber
The St. Clair women’s soccer team played their second match of the OCAA season in front of a great crowd at the Sportspark on Saturday afternoon against the top ranked Humber Hawks. The Saints ending up falling to Humber (Etobicoke) by a score of 4-0.
The Hawks are now 2-0 and are ranked 1st in Ontario and 5th in Canada.
The Saints had a solid defensive first half limiting the Humber chances to the outside. The Hawks had a couple close chances in tight but could not capitalize. The score at the half was 0-0.
Humber took over the game early in the second half scoring two quick goals in the 53rd and 55th minute. The Saints regained their composure but Humber put the game away with two more goals in the 79th and 84th minutes.
Goalkeeper Athena Dimario Done (Windsor; St. Joseph’s) was solid in goal for the Saints ending the match with 18 saves.
Rookie Sydnie Lucier (Windsor; L’Essor) had a solid game returning from concussion playing all 90 minutes in her first action in 3 weeks.
The Saints are next in action on Tuesday, September 20 when they travel to Sarnia to take on the Lambton Lions. St. Clair will be back home at the SportsPark on Saturday, September 24th against Conestoga at 2 pm.
St. Clair Men’s Soccer Lose Battle for Number 1
The St. Clair men’s soccer team played their second match of the OCAA season in front of a huge crowd at the Sportspark on Saturday night against the top ranked Humber Hawks. The Saints ending up falling to Humber (Etobicoke) by a score of 5-2 in an intense, chippy back and forth match in a battle between two of the top teams in the OCAA and CCAA the felt much closer than the final score.
The Hawks are now 2-0 and are ranked 1st in Ontario and 1st in Canada while the Saints dropped to 1-1. St. Clair is ranked 2nd in Ontario and 5th in Canada.
Humber opened the scoring on a nice strike from distance in the 20th minute. The Hawks then went up 2-0 on an own goal in the 26th minute as a St. Clair defender tried to deflect a shot away.
The Saints bounced back in the 34th minute on a great strike by Matteo Grahovac assisted by Moussa Nizam to make it 2-1.
The Hawks restored their two goal lead in the 59th minute to make it 3-1. Once again, the Saints responded in the 66th minute to make it 3-2 on a penalty kick by Grahovac after a St. Clair player was hauled down in the box. St. Clair had a couple chances to tie the game but Humber scored two goals late to ice the game in the 79th and 86th minutes to make it a 5-2 final.
Humber had 13 shot attempts in the match while the Saints had 9.
The Saints are next in action on Wednesday, September 21 when they travel to Sarnia to take on the Lambton Lions. St. Clair will be back home at the SportsPark on Saturday, September 24th against Conestoga at 4 pm.
