St. Clair Saints take on Humber Hawks and Sheridan Bruins

The St. Clair College volleyball teams are hosting a pair of big double headers at the Sportsplex this weekend.  On Saturday, the Saints will host the Humber Hawks while on Sunday St. Clair will take on the Sheridan Bruins. Both days the women take to the floor at 1 pm followed by the men at 3 pm. All four matches will be streamed live on www.we-tv.ca

For the St. Clair women the weekend will give the Saints a tough test against one of the top teams in the country. The Humber women are ranked 1st in the OCAA and 2nd in Canada. Humber has a season record of 13-0 and has a 122 game winning streak in the OCAA as well. Humber has only lost 2 sets all season. In their previous match in the fall semester the Saints fell the to the Hawks 3-0 in Toronto.

Sheridan is currently ranked 7th in the OCAA with a record of 6-8. The Saints defeated the Bruins 3-0 in their match in the fall semester at Oakville.

St. Clair is currently 9-3 on the season and are in 3rd place in the OCAA West Division. The Saints are ranked 4th in the OCAA. St. Clair has won 28 sets and only dropped 12. The Saints are led offensively by 3rd year Outside Hitter Kaila Crough who is averaging 3.9 points/set. St. Clair is also welcoming a new player for her first home game of the year- Angela Evans from Panama who has joined the Saints for the second half of the season. The St. Clair women are hosting the OCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship from February 24-26 at the Sportsplex. As host the Saints are guaranteed a spot in the event that will send the winner to the CCAA Nationals in Victoria, British Columbia.

OCAA Women’s Volleyball Standings

For the St. Clair men the weekend has huge playoff implications for all three teams. The Humber men are ranked 6th in the OCAA with a record of 9-4 and are sitting in 3rd place in the OCAA West Division. In their previous match in the fall semester the Saints beat the Hawks 3-0 in Toronto.

Sheridan is currently ranked 7th in the OCAA with a record of 7-7 and in 6th place in the OCAA West. The Bruins defeated the Saints 3-1 in their match in the fall semester at Oakville.

St. Clair is currently 6-6 on the season and are in 7TH place in the very competitive OCAA West Division. The top 6 teams make the playoffs. The Saints are ranked 8th in the OCAA. The Saints are led offensively by 2nd  year Outside Hitter Jared Niziolek who is averaging 4.4 points/set in his last 3 matches. St. Clair is also welcoming a new player for his first home game of the year- Oswald Marshall from Panama who has joined the Saints for the second half of the season.
