Saints Varsity Soccer Defeat Condors at Home
The St. Clair College Saints varsity soccer teams picked up two solid wins on Sunday afternoon as they hosted the Conestoga Condors of Kitchener at the Main Campus Field.
The women defeated the Condors by a score of 3-1. After falling behind in the 15th minute of play the Saints bounced back to tie the match at 1-1 on a goal by Melanie Daniel in the in the 25th minute of play. The Saints went ahead for good on a nice goal by Kaitlyn Austin in the 40th minute. St. Clair carried most of the play for the second half and Tiffany Trembley iced the game scoring in the 70th minute to make it 3-1. Alexandria Samping was solid in net and earned the win turning aside 5 of the 6 shots she faced. St. Clair outshot the Condors 13-6 on the day. The Saints also had 24 shot attempts in the match compared to 11 for Conestoga.
With the win the Saints record improved to 4 wins and a tie on the season. St. Clair is currently ranked 5th in the OCAA and are in 2nd place in the OCAA West Division. The loss dropped the Condors record to 1 win and 4 losses on the season. The St. Clair women are next in action on Saturday October 1 at 12 noon when the travel to Hamilton to take on Mohawk College.
The St. Clair men defeated the Condors by a score of 3-0. Stefan Milidrag put the Saints up early on a nice goal in the 7th minute. St. Clair dominated play for the first half with 6 shots on goal while Conestoga had none. The Saints had 13 shot attempts compared to 1 for the Condors. The Saints went up 2-0 early in the second half on a nice strike by Stefan Zastavnikovic in the 53rd minute. William Escobar put the game away scoring in the 81st minute to make it 3-0. St. Clair controlled the play for the second half as well outshooting the Condors 6-0 along with 15 shot attempts compared to 1 for Conestoga. Shane Beaton and Shawn Alexander earned the win and clean sheet in goal.
The win improved the Saint’s record to 4 wins and a loss. The loss dropped the Condor’s record to 1 draw and 4 losses. The St. Clair men’s next match is on Saturday, October 1 in Hamilton at 2 pm when they take on the Mohawk Mountaineers.
