St. Clair Women’s Volleyball Move to 9-3

The St. Clair women’s volleyball team continued their OCAA regular season schedule on the road this weekend and came away with two big wins.

On Saturday, the Saints were in Sudbury to take on the College Boreal Vipers and earned a convincing 3-0 victory. With the loss Boreal fell to 0-12 on the season. Set scores for St. Clair were 25-11, 25-12 and 25-5. Jen Taylor (Sarnia; St. Patrick’s) let the way offensively with 10 service aces, 2 kills and 3 digs. Rookie outside hitter Lia Degirolamo (Newmarket; Sir William Mulock) had a great match as well with 5 kills on 7 attempts, 4 service aces and 4 digs.

The women were also in Sudbury on Sunday afternoon to take on the Cambrian College Golden Shield and posted a 3-1 win. With the loss Cambrian’s record dropped to 2-10 for the year. Set scores for St. Clair were 25-27, 25-13, 23-13, and 25-13. Third year outside hitter Shalena Horst (Dutton; West Elgin Secondary) led the way for the Saints with 15 kills, 2 stuff blocks and 2 service aces. Rookie outside hitter Baylee Mailloux (Belle River; St. Anne’s) had a big game as well with 14 kills and 5 service aces. Libero Jaimie Randall (Fredericton; Fredericton District) had a solid defensive match with 10 digs and passing the ball well throughout the match.

With the two wins on the weekend St. Clair’s record now sits at 9-3. The Saints are in 3rd place in the tough OCAA West Division and are ranked 4th in Ontario. The Saints are next in action at home at the Sportsplex on Saturday, January 25 at 4 pm against the Mohawk Mountaineers in the first of three straight home matches.

On Saturday, the Saints were in Sudbury to take on the College Boreal Vipers and came away with a convincing 3-1 win. With the loss Boreal fell to 1-11 on the season. Set scores for St. Clair were 25-12, 25-15, 21-25 and 25-11. Second year outside hitter Frankie Friesen (Staples; Tilbury District) led the way offensively with 11 kills, 3 service aces and 4 digs. Third year middle Ryan Acott (Windsor; Kennedy) had a great game as well with 7 kills on 10 attempts, 2 service aces and 2 digs.

The men were also in Sudbury on Sunday afternoon to take on the Cambrian College Golden Shield and cruised to a 3-0 victory .With the loss Cambrian’s record dropped to 0-12 for the year. Set scores for St. Clair were 25-18, 25-15, and 27-25. Acott led the way for St. Clair with 9 kills, 1 service ace and 1 stuff block. Rookie outside hitter Carson Brummel (Kingsville; Kingsville District) also had a solid match with 5 kills and 1 service ace.

With the two wins on the weekend St. Clair’s record now sits at 6-6. The Saints are currently in 6th place in a very tough and tight OCAA West Division. The Saints are next in action at home at the Sportsplex on Saturday, January 25 at 6 pm against the Mohawk Mountaineers for their first of three straight home matches.
