Saints Volleyball Weekend Update 2-3-2019

St. Clair Women’s Volleyball Split on the Road

The St. Clair women’s volleyball team was on the road this weekend to take on Mohawk College and Niagara College.

On Friday night, St. Clair fell to the Mohawk Mountaineers by a score of 3-2 in an intense exciting back and forth match. Set scores for Mohawk were 21-25, 25-23, 25-22, 22-25 and 23-21. Middle Kiana Gelissen (LaSalle; Sandwich Secondary) had a great match with 7 kills, 2 service aces and 6 stuff blocks. Te-Anna Stephenson (Whitby; Sinclair Secondary) also had a big game with 15 kills, 3 service aces and 1 stuff block. With the win Mohawk improved to 12-4 on the season. The Mountaineers are ranked 5th in Ontario.

On Saturday, the Saints were in Welland to take on the Niagara Knights. In another tight five set match St. Clair came out on top 3-2. Set scores for the Saints were 15-25, 25-16, 25-22, 21-25 and 15-11. Stephenson led the way offensively for St. Clair with 18 kills, 2 service aces, and 11 digs. Setter Kim Quintanilla (Windsor; St. Joseph’s) had a solid game spreading the ball out well with 29 assists and 16 digs. Libero Julia Ann Milling (Woodstock; Woodstock Collegiate) also had a big match with 19 digs and 3 assists. The loss dropped Niagara’s record to 9-7 on the year. The Knights are currently ranked 6th in Ontario.

With the split the Saints record is now 13-3 on the season St. Clair is ranked 2nd in Ontario and 10th in Canada.

The Saints are next in action at home this coming weekend when they wrap up their regular season schedule at the Sportsplex. They host College Boreal at 12 noon on Saturday and Cambrian College on Sunday at 12 noon. Sunday will be Senior Day with the graduating seniors recognized before the match. St. Clair can clinch 2nd place in the OCAA West Division with two wins on the weekend.

St. Clair Men’s Volleyball Drop Two on the Road

The St. Clair men’s volleyball team was on the road this weekend to take on Mohawk College and Niagara College.

On Friday night, St. Clair fell to the Mohawk Mountaineers by a score of 3-0. Set scores for Mohawk were 25-12, 25-16, and 25-23. Michael Knight (LaSalle; Sandwich Secondary) had a solid match with 11 kills, 1 service aces and 4 digs. With the win Mohawk improved to 8-8 on the season. The Mountaineers are ranked 8th in Ontario.

On Saturday, the Saints were in Welland to take on the Niagara Knights. St. Clair struggled once again losing the match 3-0. Set scores for the Knights were 25-9, 25-12, and 25-17. Frankie Friesen (Staples; Tilbury District) led the way offensively for St. Clair with 6 kills. The win moved Niagara’s record to 11-5 on the year. The Knights are currently ranked 5th in Ontario.

With the two losses the Saints record is now 3-13 on the season.

The Saints are next in action at home this coming weekend when they wrap up their regular season schedule at the Sportsplex. They host College Boreal at 2 pm on Saturday and Cambrian College on Sunday at 2 pm. Sunday will be Senior Day with the graduating seniors recognized before the match. St. Clair can still clinch the final playoff spot in the OCAA West Division with 2 wins on the weekend.
