St. Clair Women’s Volleyball Add Top Recruits

The St. Clair College Department of Athletics and women’s volleyball program has announced the signing of four top recruits for the 2022-23 season. The women that will be joining the program are Emma Clements, Geneva Huisman, Jordyn Beneteau and Haven Fournier.

Clements is from Windsor where she attended Holy Names High School. Clements has also been a long time member of the Sky Volley Windsor and South County Bandits club programs. She also won the OVA Award of Excellence and was selected as a member of Team Ontario indoor on several occasions. Clements is a 5’5” setter who will be taking the Honours Bachelor of Applied Arts in Social Justice & Legal Studies four year degree program.

Emma chose to play at St. Clair because it had everything she wanted in a school and volleyball program. “Not only does it have amazing academic programs, it also has a well established volleyball program. The team environment is incredible. The players and coaches are warm and welcoming, and I love the atmosphere they create in the gym, ” stated Clements.

Huisman is from Amhertsburg and is graduating from Marantha Christian Academy where she was named a league all-star twice. Geneva has also been a member of the Sky Volley Windsor and South County Bandits club programs. She was selected by the OVA to Team Ontario and the Tall Maples programs. Huisman is a 6’3” middle who will be taking the three year Child and Youth Care Program.

Geneva is excited to continue her education and volleyball at St. Clair. “I decided to commit to St. Clair because of how welcome and at home I felt with the team. I am so excited to play and compete at a college level, and know I will develop and grow in many ways through this experience. Since St. Clair is close to home, I am excited because my family and friends are able to watch and cheer me on.”

Beneteau hails from Harrow where she attended Kingsville District High School. Jordyn also has extensive experience with the South Country Bandits club program and was also selected as a member of the Team Ontario beach program. Beneteau is a 5’8” Libero who will be taking the Fitness and Health Promotion Program.

Beneteau is looking forward to her time with the Saints. “I chose St. Clair because of the welcoming atmosphere and the incredible kindness shown from the women on the team, the amazing support system they have, and the strong academic programs. I came to watch several games and I love the facility and the amazing atmosphere at the games.”

Fournier is a Sudbury native where she attended Collège Notre Dame. While there she was named team MVP in helping her team win two city championships (NOSSA) and a second place finish at OFSAA. The 5’7” outside hitter has played club volleyball for Northern Chill Volleyball Club as well. Fournier will be taking the Pre-Health Science Program with plans to move into Nursing after that.

Fournier can’t wait to start at St. Clair. “The biggest reason why I chose to commit to St. Clair is because of how welcomed I felt and cared for when visiting. Only a few minutes after meeting the team, I already felt like I was one of them. Additionally, it is very evident that athletics is a huge deal to the college. I’ll also have access to a very knowledgeable coaching staff, an amazing athletic facility and I’ll be studying in a well respected Health Sciences Department.”

Head coach, Jimmy El-Turk is extremely pleased with his recruiting class for next season. “After graduating only two athletes from last season’s team, our recruiting focus was very narrow and I’m very happy with the quality additions to our program. I believe that Emma, Geneva, Jordyn, and Haven will all find a way to impact our team in some capacity this upcoming season because of their high level of skill and versatility.”

The St. Clair women finished this past COVID 19 shortened season in fourth place in the OCAA West Division with a record of 6-3. The Saints qualified for the playoffs but fell 3-2 to Niagara in their first playoff match.
