St. Clair Men’s Curling Place Third

The St. Clair Saints men’s varsity curling team travelled to Toronto this past weekend to take part in the Humber College Bonspiel at the Weston Curling Club.

The Saints had a successful event finishing in third place with a record of 3-2. St. Clair defeated Fanshawe 11-4, Niagara 10-7 and Mohawk 6-2. The Saints lost to Fleming 4-6 and Humber 1-6. St. Clair skip Travis Anderson was named to the Tournament All-Star Team.

Other St. Clair team members are lead Brett Henderson, 2nd David Renaud, Vice Alex Zappio and spare Jonathan Carson. The Saints are coached by Jim Brackett and Graeme Robson.

The St. Clair men’s and mixed curling teams will be travelling to Thunder Bay to compete in the OCAA Championships being hosted by Confederation College from Feb 18-21.

 

St. Clair Men’s Volleyball Lose to Niagara

The St. Clair College men’s volleyball team dropped their match to the top ranked Niagara Knights at the Sportsplex on Sunday afternoon.

The Saints played well with each set getting to at least a 21-21 score but St. Clair could not get the crucial points to finish off the Knights as Niagara won 3-0 with the set scores being 26-24, 25-22 and 25-22. The Saints were led by Keaton Rebkowec who had 10 kills, 1 service ace and 5 digs.

With the loss the St. Clair men fell to 2-9 on the season and are in 8th place in the OCAA West Division while Niagara improved to 9-2 and are sitting in 2nd place. The Knights are ranked 3rd in Ontario and 6th in Canada.

The Saints are next in action when they travel to the Metro Toronto Area to take on the Sheridan Bruins on Saturday, January 23 and the Humber Hawks on Sunday, January 24.

 

St. Clair Women’s Volleyball Fall to Niagara

The St. Clair women’s volleyball team dropped their match to the top ranked Niagara Knights at the Sportsplex on Sunday afternoon.

After taking the first set 25-23 the Saints struggled and lost the next three sets (16-25, 17-25, 16-25) to lose the match 3-1. The Saints were led by Helen Wiebe who had 6 kills, 3 stuff blocks, and 13 digs. Shalena Horst also had a strong match with 9 kills, 1 stuff block and 10 digs. Jessica Masse chipped in with 5 kills, 1 ace, 2 stuff blocks and 6 digs.

With the loss the St. Clair women fell to 6-5 on the season and are in 5th place in the OCAA West Division while Niagara improved to 9-2 and are sitting in 2nd place. The Knights are ranked 2nd in Ontario and 12th in Canada.

The Saints are next in action when they travel to the Metro Toronto Area to take on the Sheridan Bruins on Saturday, January 23 and the Humber Hawks on Sunday, January 24.
