Organizers of the third annual South Coast Adventure Race are proud to put the SCAR name alongside a number of well-known and respected events in the Adventure Racing Ontario Series.

The series features a dozen endurance events hosted throughout Ontario, which allows adventure racers to see how they stack up against their provincial competitors over the year.

“Joining the points series is another way to put SCAR on the radar for adventure racers throughout the province, it adds another layer of competition and really highlights how our adventure race has grown in the past three years,” – Danielle Stuebing, Race Director and Director of Community Outreach Services for the Essex Region Conservation Authority.

SCAR joins a number of long-running Ontario adventure races in the series, like the Rockstar Adventure Race and the 24 Hour Wilderness Traverse. SCAR participants are eligible to collect up to 100 points towards the series, determined by how well they place in their race category.

The series recognizes the year’s best teams in the co-ed, male and female categories, based on their top three performances in all races in the series.

SCAR has also joined the Canadian Adventure Racing Association, the non-profit organization recognized as the governing body of the sport in Canada. As a member, SCAR contributes to the overall promotion of adventure racing in the country and must maintain specific safety protocols and environmental considerations as outlined by the association.

This year’s South Coast Adventure race will be based out of the Holiday Beach Conservation Area, and will be a 6 – 8 hour event including cycling, trekking, orienteering and paddling. Solo racers or teams of two or three participants can complete in all male, all female or co-ed categories.

Unique to SCAR is a youth category for teams aged 13 to 17. Early bird rates range from $75 – 100 per team member, and include all race support, canoe rentals, safety equipment, t-shirt, finishers’ medal, a post-race bash and awards ceremony. Early bird rates apply until February 28, with regular fees kicking in on March 1, or once the 100 early bird spots have been claimed.

SCAR 2016 is co-hosted by the Essex Region Conservation Authority and the Rotary Club of Windsor-St. Clair, with funds raised used to implement community service projects and improve our local environment.  Rotary is the world’s largest service organization with 1.2 million members.

The Rotary Club of Windsor St. Clair is comprised of about 35 members from around the Essex Region dedicated to improving our local and worldwide communities by undertaking projects to address hunger, health, literacy, promote physical activity, and provide support to the financially disadvantaged in our community.
