Stingy Spitfires Blank North Bay Battalion

Michael DiPietro made 21 saves to record his third straight shutout – and fourth of the season – as the Windsor Spitfires blanked the North Bay Battalion 3-0 in North Bay Sunday afternoon.

DiPietro extended his shutout streak to 204 minutes – a Spits franchise record – by repelling the Battalion after previously shutting out the Wolves in Sudbury and the Colts in Barrie as the Spitfires defeated the opposition 12-0 on their three-game road trip.

Defenceman Mikhail Sergachev scored a goal and added an assist to lead the Spitfires (21-5-4-0) offensively on Sunday.

Luke Boka added his sixth goal of the season, and third in the past two games and Jeremiah Addison scored into an empty net to round out the scoring in North Bay.

Sergachev, the first round pick of the Mantreal Canadiens last summer, opened the scoring in the game just 25 seconds into the first period by rifling a slapshot past the outstretched glove-hand of Julian Sime in the Battalion net.

Sime made 21 saves for the Battalion (15-14-2-0) who sit atop the OHL’s Central Division standings.

The victory extended the Spitfires’ winning streak to five games.

The Spitfires schedule has them in action next Friday for games in Erie against the Otters and in St. Catherines against the Niagara IceDogs on Saturday before taking a nine-day OHL break for the holidays.
