Spitfires defeat Steelheads as Logan Brown scored four points and Mario Culina made 24 saves as the Windsor Spitfires defeated the Mississauga Steelheads 4-1 at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga Friday night.

Brown, the first round draft choice of the Ottawa Senators last summer, assisted on all four Windsor goals to boost his point total to boost his point total to five in two games since being returned from the Senator’s training camp on Wednesday.

Cole Carter scored twice for the Spitfires (3-1-0) who also received single markers from Cole Purboo and Aron Luchuk.

Special teams played a significant role in the outcome of the game as the Spitfires scored all four of their goals on seven powerplay opportunities while the Steelheads (1-2-0) could not capitalize on any of their five chances playing with the man advantage.

Among the penalties killed off by the Spitfires were five-minute majors to both Andrew Burns (check from behind) and Cristiano DiGiacinto (boarding). Both players also received game misconducts for their second period infractions and are now facing suspensions from the Ontario Hockey League.

Purboo’s team-leading fourth goal of the season extended the rookie right-winger’s goal-scoring streak to four games this season.

Shaw Boomhower scored the only goal of the game for the Steelheads while Mattthew Mancina of Tecumseh made 30 saves while taking the loss in net for the home team.
