Spitfires Defeat Storm in Guelph
Cole Carter scored twice and Mario Culina made 43 saves as the Windsor Spitfires defeated the Guelph Storm 5-4 at the Sleeman Centre in Guelph Friday night.

Carter scored his second goal of the game early in the third period when he picked off a clearing attempt by Guelph netminder Liam Herbst just inside the Storm blueline with the Spitfires killing a penalty and lofted the puck into the yawning net behind Herbst. The goal proved to be the game-winner and was Carter’s Ontario Hockey League-leading seventh goal of the season.
Logan Brown, Gabriel Vilardi and Luke Boka, with his first of the season, had the other goals for the Spitfires (5-2-0) who won for the third time in four road games this season.
Culina turned in a stellar performance, particularly in the third period when Windsor was outshot 21-3.
Jake Bricknell, Nate Schnaar, Isaac Ratcliffe and Luke Burghardt scored for the Storm (3-2-0) while Herbst made 22 saves on the night.
Special teams played a major role in determining the outcome of the game as the Spitfires scored two powerplay goals in addition to Carter’s shorthanded effort while the Storm could not capitalize on any of their three opportunities playing with the man advantage – all of which were in the third period.
The Spitfires return to action Sunday afternoon when they host the London Knights at the WFCU Centre.
