Spitfires Defeat Storm on the Road
Julius Nattinen scored twice and Michael DiPietro made 25 saves as the Windsor Spitfires defeated the Guelph Storm 5-2 at the Sleeman Centre Friday night.
Nattinen, a second round pick of the Anaheim Ducks in 2015, was making his return to the Windsor lineup after playing for his native Finland in the 2017 World Junior Hockey Championships.
Gabriel Vilardi, Graham Knott and Jeremiah Addison scored the other goals for the Spitfires (25-7-4-1) while Cristiano DiGiacinto and Sean Day chipped in with a pair of assists apiece.
Both Storm goals – by Nate Schnarr and Ryan Merkley – came while the team was playing with the man advantage, making it just the second time this season that the Spits’ league-leading penalty killing unit had surrendered two powerplay goals this season.
Liam Herbst made 36 saves in a losing effort for the Storm (12-20-2-2).
The Spitfires schedule has them remain on the road and return to action Saturday night in Owen Sound for a game against the Attack at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Arena.
