Spitfires Hammer Knights

The Windsor Spitfires scored four unanswered goals in the third period enroute to hammering the London Knights 5-1 at the WFCU Centre Tuesday night.

Jalen Chatfield, Hayden McCool and Logan Stanley paced the Spitfires (28-7-4-1) offensively while Cole Purboo and Gabriel Vilardi had the other goals for Windsor.

Michael DiPietro was outstanding while making 28 saves to pick up the wing goal in net while lowering his league-leading goals against average to2.16

Robert Thomas had the lone goal for the Knights (25-6-2-3) while Tyler Johnson made 23 saves for London before being replaced with just under five minutes remaining in the third period. Jordan Kooy made three stops in a relief effort.

Special teams played a large role in deciding the outcome of the game as the Spitfires scored two powerplay goals during five opportunities playing with the man advantage while also killing off six of their seven penalties.

The win evened the regular season series between the two teams at two games apiece.

The Spitfires schedule has them return to action Friday night on the road when they take on the Storm in Guelph.
