The Spitfires have named Evan Mathias the club’s new Director of Analytics

A former intern with the Spitfires and In Play! magazine, Evan Mathias, 22, spent the 2015-16 handling advanced statistics, working directly with head coach Rocky Thompson and the coaching staff.

“I’m ecstatic about being named the Director of Analytics,” Mathias said. “Last season we laid a good foundation for these stats,” said Mathias. “It’s something that has trickled down from the NHL and I’m happy to see my work is something Rocky and the coaching staff find useful.”

Mathias is St. Clair College alumnus, having graduated from the school’s journalism program and earning a graduate’s certificate from the Media Convergence program. “These analytics are something that are very big at the next level, but can also be implemented with our team,” said Head Coach Rocky Thompson. “Each stat that Evan tracks is a tool that gives us that much more of an advantage, which is crucial, especially this year.”
