Windsor Spitfires Shutout Saginaw Spirit

Michael DiPietro made 22 saves to pick up his league-leading sixth shutout of the season as the Windsor Spitfires defeated the Saginaw Spirit 4-0 at the WFCU Centre Thursday night.

With his performance, DiPietro set new Spitfires franchise records for both most career shutouts and most in a single season.

Christiano DiGiacinto, Tyler Angle, with his first career Ontario Hockey League goal, Adam Laishram and Sean Day all scored for the Spitfire (30-11-5-2) who deflated the Spirit (19-22-6-2) for the fifth times in six game so far this season.

Spits rookie Maddux Rychel picked up his first career OHL point by assisting on Angle’s first period marker.

The Spitfires entered the game without Logan Brown, Logan Stanley, Jeremiah Addison, Daniel Robertson and Austin McEneny all of whom were out with injuries and the Windsor lineup became even thinner when Hayden McCool left the game on a stretcher due to a neck injury. Hayden McCool injury update.

Saginaw starting goaltender Evan Cormier was pulled during the first period after allowing two goal on just six shots. Brendan Bonello made 18 stops in a relief effort the rest of the way.

The Windsor Spitfires schedule has them return to action Friday night on the road when the take on the Kitchener Rangers at the venerable Kitchener Memorial Auditorium.
