St. Clair College varsity women’s indoor soccer team travelled to Ancaster Saturday to take part in the Sheridan Invitational Tournament
This tournament is the Saints final tuneup prior to taking part in the OCAA Regional Championship on March 8 in Toronto.
St. Clair ended up coming home with the gold medals after going 5-0. The Saints started off the round robin by defeating Centennial College 4-0. Goal scorers were Cassie Nicholas, Julia Albeartie, Melanie Daniel and Amber Hosker. In their second match St. Clair took down Conestoga College by a score of 3-0. Goal scorers were Albeartie, Daniel and Kaitlyn Austin. In their final round robin match the Saints beat the University Toronto-Mississauga 2-0. Hosker scored both goals for St. Clair. Alexandria Samping picked up the wins and clean sheets in all 3 matches.
In the semi-final St. Clair won a nailbiter defeating the Mohawk Mountaineers by a score of 2-1 in penalty kicks. Emily Ditty scored the only goal during regulation play while Hosker and Carly Malenfant both scored in PK’s with Samping saving both PK’s she faced.
In the gold medal final the Saints easily defeated the Sheridan Bruins by a score of 3-0. Melanie Jubenville, Austin and Ditty all scored for St. Clair with Samping picking up her 4th shutout of the tournament.
