St. Clair’s Coffey Wins OCAA Silver & Men’s Team Wins Division II Gold

The St. Clair College men’s and women’s varsity golf teams continued their solid play at the OCCA Championship on Wednesday. The event was hosted by St. Lawrence College at Cataraqui Golf and Country Club in Kingston from September 29 to October 2.

Rookie Shannon Coffey (Windsor; FJ Brennan) had an outstanding final round shooting a 4 over par 76 to move up to 2nd place overall and earn an individual silver medal. It is St. Clair’s first individual OCAA medal in 5 years.Her four day total was 243. Her final round score was the lowest by any female in the tournament over the three days. The Saints as a team ended up in 4th place out of 6 female teams. Rookie Meaghan Schaafsma (Essex; Essex District) shot a 102 and ended up in 13th place. For the women 3 players play with the top 2 scores counting. The Saints only have 2 women taking part in the event this year.

The Saints men team ended up winning the Division II Championship with a three day total of 952. There is a cut after 2 rounds and the Saints narrowly missed the Division I field but held on to win Division 2 in the final round. Five players play for each team with the best 4 scores counting each day.

First year player Andrew Pillon (St. Joachim; Belle River District) had another solid round shooting a 78 for a three day total of 230 and tied for 25th out of 55 golfers. Other team members and scores on day three for St. Clair were Brett Harrison-82 (3rd Year; Essex; Essex District), Josh Chilcoat-87 (1st Year; LaSalle; Sandwich Secondary) and Simon Desmarais-82 (2nd Year; Windsor; FJ Brennan). Second year player Derek Hare 77 (Windsor; FJ Brennan)
