St. Clair Men’s Soccer 10th in the OCAA

St. Clair Men’s Soccer Defeat Mohawk, while 
Women’s Soccer Lose Close Match

The St. Clair men’s soccer team kept their hopes for a home playoff game alive on Friday night. The Saints earned a hard fought 2-1 win over the Mohawk Mountaineers at home in Amherstburg in OCAA soccer action.

The Saints dominated play for most of the first half but did not find the net until the 40 minute mark on a nice goal by Nick Bauer (Windsor; Riverside). Tyrone Mulder (Merlin; Chatham-Kent) made it 2-0 on a nice strike from distance.  St. Clair had 12 shot attempts in the first half compared to 4 for Mohawk. The Mohawk keeper made 6 saves in the first half while Haiden Gelinas (Windsor; St. Joseph’s) only had to make 2.

Mohawk made a push in the second half and ended up making it 2-1 in the 82nd minute off of a corner kick. The Saints had 8 shot attempts in the second half while Mohawk had 5.

With the win St. Clair is now 5-4 on the season while Mohawk dropped to 1-8. The St. Clair men are currently ranked 10th in the OCAA.

The Saints are next in action on Sunday, October 14 when they play their final regular season game in Welland against the Niagara Knights. St. Clair will have to win the game and hope that Redeemer loses to Fanshawe on Saturday in order to move into 3rd place and host a playoff game on Saturday October 20. If not they will be on the road next weekend in a playoff crossover match.

St. Clair Women’s Soccer Lose Close Match to Mohawk

In a must win game on Friday night, the St. Clair women’s soccer team came up just short losing to the Mohawk Mountaineers at home in Amherstburg in OCAA soccer action by a score of 1-0.

Mohawk scored the only goal of the game off a scramble off of a corner kick in the 20th minute. Play was very even for the first half with both teams having 6 shot attempts. The Mohawk keeper made 4 saves while Madison Kaldenbach (Milton; Craig Kielburger) made 3 saves.

Mohawk outplayed the Saints in the 2nd half as St. Clair had to take some chances in order to win the game. A tie did St. Clair no good. Mohawk had 11 shot attempts compared to 5 for the Saints. Kaldenbach made 5 saves compared to 2 for the Mohawk keeper.

With the loss the Saints are now 3-4-2 on the season while Mohawk improved to 4-3-2. St. Clair is now locked into 4th place and will go on the road next weekend in a playoff cross over match. The Mohawk women are currently ranked 9th in the OCAA.
