St. Clair Women’s Soccer Remain Unbeaten

The St. Clair women’s soccer team wrapped up their OCAA regular season home schedule with a comeback 2-1 win over the Conestoga Condors on Sunday afternoon at Acumen Stadium.

St. Clair outplayed the Condors in the first half with a 17-10 edge in shot attempts. Both keepers were busy in the first half with the Conestoga keeper making 10 saves and St. Clair’s Athena Dimario Done (Windsor; St. Joseph’s) stopping 8. Unfortunately for the Saints, Conestoga went up 1-0 in the 44th minute on a shot that snuck through Dimario Done on a goal she would probably want back. The Saints had 7 corner kicks in the first half while the Condors had none.

The Saints continued to put the pressure on throughout the second half and finally got one past the keeper in the 79th minute on a great strike by Malary Cole (Thunder Bay, St. Ignatius) on a nice assist by Jaclyn French (Windsor; FJ Brennan). It didn’t take long for St. Clair to take the lead when Cassie Nichols (Windsor; Holy Names) scored in the 84th minute after a great effort and pass by Emma Riccardi (LaSalle; Sandwich) to make it 2-1.

St. Clair ended the match with 28 shot attempts while Conestoga had 15. Dimario Done got the win turning aside 13 of 14 shots she faced.

With the win St. Clair’s record improved to 4 wins and a tie. The Saints are now guaranteed a home playoff game by finishing in at least 2nd place in the West Division. St. Clair can still earn a first round bye by finishing in first if they win their final match against Fanshawe on Thursday night.

St. Clair Men’s Soccer Clinch Home Playoff Game

The St. Clair men’s soccer team wrapped up their OCAA regular season home schedule with an exciting 2-1 win over the Conestoga Condors on Sunday afternoon at Acumen Stadium.

St. Clair dominated the first half with 13 shot attempts compared to none for Conestoga. However the Condor keeper was solid in goal turning away all 9 shots on goal.

The Saints got off to a great start in the second half when Noel Junior (Brazil) scored in the 47th minute on a penalty kick. However, the Condors bounced back quickly evening the score at one all in the 58th minute. St. Clair pushed hard to get the go ahead goal for the rest of the half but could not get one past the keeper until injury time. After a great cross to the back post by Noel Junior, Evan Mendonca (Wallacetown; West Elgin) headed home the winner with only a couple of minutes remaining.

St. Clair ended the match with 23 shot attempts with the Conestoga keeper saving 16 of them. Conestoga had 3 shot attempts in the game as the Saints defenders kept the Condors at bay.
