St. Clair Women’s Volleyball Defeat Conestoga

The St. Clair women’s volleyball team was on the road Sunday to take on the Conestoga College Condors in Kitchener.

The Saints struggled at times with some errors but still came away with a win by a score of 3-1. Set scores were 25-21, 25-12, 20-25 and 25-16. Second year outside hitter Te-Anna Stephenson (Whitby; Sinclair Secondary) led the way offensively with 16 kills, 3 service aces and 2 digs. Rookie outside hitter Ally Kozak (Belle River; Belle River District) also had a solid match with 13 kills, 3 service aces and 6 digs. Rookie outside hitter Amelia Oliverio (Windsor; St. Joseph’s) chipped in with 9 kills, 2 service aces, 1 stuff block and 9 digs in only 3 sets played. Overall the Saints generated 69 points on offense compared to 32 for Conestoga.

With the win the Saints record improved to 6-1 on the season. St. Clair is ranked 2nd in Ontario and 10th in Canada. Conestoga fell to 1-5 on the season with the loss.

The Saints are next in action on Saturday and Sunday at home next weekend to wrap up their first half OCAA schedule. St. Clair will host Niagara College Saturday at 2 pm and Sheridan College on Sunday at 1 pm.

St. Clair Men’s Volleyball Drop Tight Match

The St. Clair men’s volleyball team was on the road Sunday to take on the Conestoga College Condors in Kitchener.

In a tight exciting back and forth match the Saints came up just short losing 3-2. Set scores for the Condors were 21-25, 27-25, 25-16, 23-25 and 15-8. Rookie outside hitter Frankie Friesen (Staple; Tilbury District) led the way offensively with 15 kills, 3 service aces, 2 stuff blocks and 6 digs. Outside hitter Michael Knight (LaSalle; Sandwich) also had a big match with 15 kills, 3 stuff blocks and 3 digs.

With the loss the Saints record fell to 2-5 on the season. Conestoga improved to 4-2 on the season with the win. The Condors are ranked 10th in the OCAA.

The Saints are next in action on Saturday and Sunday at home next weekend to wrap up their first half OCAA schedule. St. Clair will host Niagara College Saturday at 4 pm and Sheridan College on Sunday at 3 pm.
