St. Clair Women’s Volleyball Add American to the Mix
The St. Clair College Department of Athletics and women’s volleyball program has signed another top recruit for the 2021-22 season. Naisa Williams will be joining the Saints in the Fall and joins the six recruits that were announced previously.
Williams is from Mount Vernon, Washington, USA where she is attending Mount Vernon High School. Her team qualified for Regionals last year. The 5’10 Outside Hitter also has played for the Skagit Island Volleyball Academy. Williams will be enrolled in the four year Bachelor of Applied Arts in Social Justice & Legal Studies.
Naisa is looking forward to her educational and sport experience at St. Clair. “Since learning about St. Clair, I have already began to develop some great friendships. After some discussions with Coach El-Turk and some of the current players, I know that I will have the opportunity to grow not only as a player but as an individual and pursue my education.”
This is the first American the women’s volleyball team has recruited under El-Turk. “We have been trying to get into the US market for a few years now but have been unsuccessful. With the pandemic offering a unique recruiting process for many Canadian athletes, we tried our hand at the US market one more time. That’s when Naisa found our school’s profile and reached out to us. We began chatting, shared some video with one another, and realized that we would be a good fit for both parties. Charles Baskin, former men’s basketball athlete and assistant coach was a very big help in landing Naisa and we are grateful for his contributions to our program!”
St. Clair finished the 2019-20 regular season with a record of 13-5 in the OCAA West Division ending up in 3rd place. The Saints won bronze at the OCAA Championship only losing to the eventual champions Fanshawe in the semi final. The Saints were ranked as high as 3rd in the OCAA during the season and were ranked as high as 13th in Canada.
