Three Spitfires selected in NHL Draft first round.

Three Spitfires were taken in the Top-20 picks of the 2016 NHL Draft on Friday night at the First Niagara Center.

The Montreal Canadiens chose defenceman Mikhail Sergachev with the 9th pick of the first round, before the Ottawa Senators took center Logan Brown at #11 and the Winnipeg Jets added defenceman Logan Stanley with the 18th overall selection.

Ottawa and Winnipeg traded up to take Brown and Stanley respectively, with the Senators flipping picks with the New Jersey Devils and the Jets with Philadelphia. It’s the first time in franchise history three players have been taken in Round One.

Spitfires draftee Clayton Keller was also taken in the first round, #7 overall by the Phoenix Coyotes. Keller was chosen by the Spitfires in the 2nd Round of the 2014 OHL Priority Selection. He is currently committed to play at Boston University next season.
