TIGERS ACQUIRE RHP CHRIS PADDACK, RHP RANDY DOBNAK FROM TWINS
The Detroit Tigers have acquired right-handed pitchers Chris Paddack and Randy Dobnak from the Minnesota Twins for minor league catcher Enrique Jimenez.
Paddack is 30-33 with a 4.49 ERA (267 ER/534.2 IP) in 106 games, all but three as a starter, covering seven major league seasons with the San Diego Padres (2019-21) and Minnesota Twins (2022-25). The 6-foot-5 righthander has gone 3-9 with a 4.95 ERA (61 ER/111.0 IP) in 21 starts with the Twins this season. He has allowed three earned runs or less in 15 of his 21 starts while getting hit hard for five earned runs or more in four of his 21 starts. Remove those outings, and Paddack has turned in a 3.17 ERA (33 ER/93.2 IP) in his remaining 17 starts.
The 29-year-old Paddack broke into the big leagues with the Padres in 2019 and went 9-7 with a 3.33 ERA (52 ER/140.2 IP) in 26 starts, striking out 153 batters in 140.2 innings pitched. He was limited to only seven major league outings (five starts) between the 2022-23 seasons due to Tommy John ligament replacement surgery and returned to make 17 starts for the Twins last season (5-3, 4.99 ERA) before his 21 starts with the Twins this year prior to joining the Tigers today.
Dobnak, 30, has gone 9-12 with two saves and a 4.86 ERA (76 ER/140.2 IP) in parts of five major league seasons with the Twins (2019-21, 2024-25). He made one appearance for the Twins this season (1 ER/5.1 IP, 1.69 ERA) but has primarily pitched for Triple-A St. Paul, where he has gone 1-7 with a 7.12 ERA (48 ER/60.2 IP) in 17 appearances, including 10 as a starter.
Jimenez, 19, is currently playing for the Florida Complex League Tigers, where he is batting .250 (42-for-168) in 48 games this season.
