TIGERS, RHP DREW ANDERSON AGREE TO ONE-YEAR MAJOR LEAGUE CONTRACT
DEAL INCLUDES A CLUB OPTION FOR 2027
The Detroit Tigers and right-handed pitcher Drew Anderson have agreed to terms on a one-year major league contract with a club option for the 2027 campaign. Anderson will earn a salary of $7,000,000 during the 2026 season, and $10,000,000 if his club option is exercised for 2027.
Anderson, who turns 32 in March, recorded an exceptional 2025 campaign with the SSG Langers of the KBO League, his second season with that club after attending major league spring training with the Tigers as a non-roster invitee in 2024. Anderson went 12-7 with a 2.25 ERA (43 ER/171.2 IP) in 30 starts for SSG last season, recording a whopping 245 strikeouts in his 171.2 innings pitched, an average of 12.8 strikeouts per nine innings.
In his two seasons with SSG, Anderson went 23-10 with a 2.91 ERA (93 ER/287.1 IP) in 54 appearances (53 starts). He was released by the Tigers after nine appearances with Triple-A Toledo to allow him to sign with the Langers in Korea. Overall, Anderson struck out 403 batters in 287.1 innings pitched during his two seasons in Korea.
Anderson rejoins the Tigers organization with international experience beyond his last two years in Korea. After making 19 major league appearances (two starts) and going 1-3 with a 6.50 ERA (32 ER/44.1 IP) across parts of five seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies (2017-19), Chicago White Sox (2020) and Texas Rangers (2021), Anderson pitched with Hiroshima in the NPB for the 2022-23 campaigns. He combined to go 7-5 with a 3.05 ERA (39 ER/115.0 IP) in 34 relief appearances at the major league level in Japan before signing a minor league deal with Detroit ahead of 2024.
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound righthander was originally selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 21st round of the 2012 Draft out of Galena High School in Reno, NV.
