TIGERS SELECT VICTOR REYES FROM ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS IN MAJOR LEAGUE PHASE OF RULE 5 DRAFT

The Detroit Tigers today announced the club has selected outfielder Victor Reyes from the Arizona Diamondbacks in the Major League phase of the Rule 5 Draft.

Reyes, 23, spent the entire 2017 season with Double A Jackson and hit .292 (140×479) with 59 runs scored, 29 doubles, five triples, four home runs, 51 RBI and 18 stolen bases. Reyes, who is ranked as the 18th-best prospect in the Diamondbacks organization by MLB Pipeline, finished the season ranked tied for third in the Southern League with 140 hits, while he was tied for fifth with a .292 batting average. Reyes also played 20 games in the Arizona Fall League in 2017 with the Salt River Rafters, hitting .316 (25×79) with eight runs scored, three doubles, two triples, nine RBI and a league-leading 12 stolen bases. Reyes was selected to the AFL’s Rising Stars Team.

In six professional seasons, Reyes has posted a .298 (614×2059) batting average with 284 runs scored, 84 doubles, 23 triples, 12 home runs and 256 RBI. He was named to the South Atlantic League’s Midseason All-Star Team in 2014 and an MiLB.com Organization All-Star for the Diamondbacks in 2016.

A native of Barcelona, Venezuela, Reyes was originally signed by the Atlanta Braves as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2011. He was acquired by the Diamondbacks from Atlanta on April 6, 2015.

The Tigers 40-man roster is now at 39.
