Windsor Championship Returns to PGA TOUR Canada schedule

Ambassador Golf Club is ready to once again welcome PGA TOUR Canada players now that PGA TOUR Canada has announced that the course and the city will host an official PGA TOUR Canada Fortinet Cup tournament. PGA TOUR Canada announced its 10 tournament 2023 schedule, with the Windsor Championship set for July 31-August 6. Ambassador Golf Club will serve as the host organization.

“Having PGA TOUR Canada golf returning to Windsor is something we’ve aimed to accomplish for several years, and this announcement and the Tour’s return this summer brings back memories of the previous two tournaments Ambassador Golf Club hosted, in 2018 and 2019,” said Adam Wagner, Tournament Director.

The Windsor Championship was part of the PGA TOUR Canada schedule in both seasons, with Mark Anguiano winning at Ambassador Golf Club in 2018 and Dawson Armstrong walking away from Ambassador with the title a year later.

“It’s always nice to return to a city and golf course that to us already has great familiarity,” said Scott Pritchard, PGA TOUR Canada Executive Director. “Ambassador Golf Club is a tremendous golf course, and we feel privileged to be back in Windsor to play in front of what we know are both sophisticated and enthusiastic fans.”

The Windsor Championship is a 72-hole stroke-play event, offering official Fortinet Cup points. The players who earn the most Fortinet Cup points at season’s end earn membership on the 2024 Korn Ferry Tour.

Ambassador Golf Club is approaching its 20th year of existence. Opened in 2005, the Tom McBroom design is a 7,033-yard course that is consistently ranked as one of Canada’s top public courses.

In each of its previous two tournaments played, the Windsor Championship raised more than $200,000 for various charities in the region. The tournament will announce the 2023 charitable benefactors at a later date.

“That was one of the things that was so attractive about returning to Windsor,” Pritchard added. “We always examine the charitable and community impact we hope our tournaments will have. In discussions with Mayor Drew Dilkens and with the host organization, we are all confident that Windsor and the Windsor Championship will once again deliver.”

Ambassador Golf Club is a Par 71 public golf course that has been acknowledged as one of the top public golf courses in Canada. Upon opening it was nominated as the “Best New Course” in Canada (Golf Digest) and Ontario (OG Magazine). In that same year, Ambassador Golf Club was rated as one of the “Top 15 Best Golf Values” in the province by Ontario Golf Magazine. Most recently Ambassador Golf Club was ranked #58 on the Score Golf List of the top 59 Public Golf Courses in Canada and of that list was rated # 1 in “Best Value” in 2015, and again in 2017.

PGA TOUR Canada is a series of tournaments played primarily in Canada each summer, where tomorrow’s stars begin the path to the PGA TOUR. The leading points-earners at the end of each season earn status on the Korn Ferry Tour for the following season. PGA TOUR Canada’s mission is to deliver a PGA TOUR experience for our members, fans, volunteers and its partners in order to develop the future stars of professional golf and enrich the communities the Tour visits.
