Windsor City FC Ready to Kick Off 2025 League1 Ontario Campaign
Windsor City FC is set to open its highly anticipated 2025 season in the League1 Ontario Championship Division with back-to-back home matches at the top-tier facility Acumen Stadium, located at St. Clair College.
The campaign kicks off Sunday, April 13, at 2:00 PM, as the team hosts Guelph United in a thrilling cup clash, followed by the league opener against Unionville Milliken on Friday, April 18, at 7:30 PM.
These matches mark the beginning of a pivotal season in the club’s history, as League1 Ontario serves as a gateway to the prestigious Canadian Championship Cup—where champions have the opportunity to face professional sides such as Toronto FC, Vancouver Whitecaps, CF Montréal, and clubs from the Canadian Premier League.
Vancho Cirovski, Windsor City FC’s president, emphasized the club’s ambition and the exciting new chapter ahead.
“While the culture we are working to build hasn’t changed, we do have key changes in personnel,” said Cirovski. “This includes coaching and new players from far and wide who are keen on impressing in the Ontario and Canadian soccer landscape. On top of this, we’ve added strong admin support in operations, ticketing, sales, and social media to raise our match day experience to a new level.”
The club’s vision is centered not just on performance, but on connection and community.
“We want everyone who trains, plays in matches, and attends our events to walk away feeling amazed—and that they want to come back. It’s about connecting to something that inspires pride in our club and community. That kind of environment gives our players the best opportunity to reach the CPL or other professional levels,” Cirovski added.
Leading the squad on the sideline is head coach Gabriel Paulino, a Windsor native returning home to take the reins of a team close to his heart.
“Being asked to be the head coach here felt like a dream come true,” Paulino shared. “To start my coaching career at home, in front of people who know me and supported me—it’s something special. We’re trying to change the culture and mentality of players here and do something big for the city of Windsor.”
Fans can expect an exciting and attacking brand of soccer under Paulino’s leadership.
“I’m a bit old school. I believe in letting players express themselves on the field. You’ll see more ball possession, more movement, more attacking. It’s going to be something beautiful to watch,” he said.
The squad, described by Paulino as full of “positive energy and good vibes,” is eager to achieve new heights this season.
“These players believe in themselves. To play for your home team and be part of something that could make history for Windsor—that’s powerful,” he concluded.
With strong backing from local partners including LiUNA 625 and the St. Clair College Student Athletic Association, Windsor City FC invites fans to be part of the journey and witness the growth of the beautiful game right in their backyard.
