The Windsor Clippers season opener was successful with a convincing 14-6 win over rival Wallaceburg Red Devils.
The Clippers wasted little time before opening the scoring just eight seconds into the game when Andrew Garant scored his first of three goals on the day. The Clippers were guilty of being a little over aggressive as Wallaceburg scored four power play goals in the first period. The teams went to the break tied at four.
The Clippers opened the second period with three straight goals before giving up another two power play goals to Wallaceburg and led 9-6 after 40 minutes.
The third period was all Clippers as they scored five unanswered to record the win. After a little between periods pep talk from the coaching staff about discipline the Clippers clamped down and put in a solid effort. The Clippers defense did not give up a even strength goal the entire game, and did not allow a goal in the final thirty minutes of play.
Andrew Garant (3,6), Logan Holmes (3,3) and Chase Kavanaugh (3,2) led the Clippers scoring attack. James Morgan (2,1), Patrick Kaschalk (2,2) and Alex Mayhead(1,0) rounded out the Clippers scoring.
Brayden Bell recorded his first win as a Clipper in goal, stopping 33 of 39 shots. The Clippers outshot the Red Devils 55-39.
The Clippers will be back in action with a pair of road games next weekend with a trip to London on Friday night followed by a trip to Niagara on Saturday.
The Clippers home opener is Saturday, May 7th at 7:00pm at Forest Glade Arena.
