Windsor Spitfires Defeat Niagara IceDogs

Michael DiPietro made 33 saves as the Windsor Spitfires edged the Niagara IceDogs 2-1 at the WFCU Centre Saturday night.

Sean Day opened the scoring in the game for the Spitfires (29-8-5-2) just over one minute into the game. The goal was the 12th of the season for the New York Rangers’ prospect and was also the 100th point of Day’s Ontario Hockey League career.

Logan Brown notched his fourth goal in two games to put the Spitfires up 2-0 after the first period. Brown would later be ejected from the game as a result of a five-minute match penalty he received for high-sticking.

Ondrej Machala scored the only goal of the game for the IceDogs (16-22-4-3) while Stephen Dhillon made 32 saves for the visitors.

The win moved the Spitfires to within two points of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the battle for first place in the OHL’s West Division. The Spitfires also have two games in hand on the Sault.

The Windsor Spitfires schedule has them return to action Sunday afternoon when they host the Guelph Storm at the WFCU Centre.
